When to Replace Garage Door Springs
Garage door springs provide needed support to your garage door opener. You’ll want to know when to replace garage door springs to prevent strain to other parts of the door opening system.
Two major signs your garage door springs need to be replaced are:
1 – A Broken Spring
At this point there’s no avoiding it, you’re going to have to replace the garage door springs if they have already broken.
2 – Stretched Out Spring
Your garage door may still open but if one or more of the springs have lost tension, are stretched out, or no longer look neatly coiled it’s time to replace them.
Garage door springs can be very dangerous when they break. When the garage door is closed the coil is stretched and there is stress on the springs. If an extension spring breaks while the coil is stretched or while the door is in movement the springs can go flying at full force potentially causing damage to property or injury to people.
Check your garage door system once a month for signs of damage or extensive wear to any parts of the system. Each element works together, damage on one piece could lead to damage to another. Call a professional to diagnose any problems if your garage door becomes difficult to operate.
